You can say that Antoine Roney has learned at the feet of the masters.
He first studied with Jackie McLean and then played as a sideman with Donald Byrd, Rashid Ali, Ted Curson, Clifford Jordan and many others. He comes to post-Coltranism with his own voice and a deep spiritualism all his own.
He has performed all over the world and is equally comfortable on tenor and soprano saxes as well as bass clarinet. He formed a quintet with his brother, noted trumpeter Wallace Roney as well as with Coltrane offspring Ravi.
He continues to perform as a leader and as a part of many contemporary ensembles.
